Just days after President William Ruto announced the nominees of his new-look cabinet, he has already begun making changes as Aden Duale, who was initially assigned as Defence CS, has now been moved to the Environment docket.

Soipan Tuya will now take charge of the critical Defence docket.

In his communication to the House on Tuesday afternoon, Speaker Moses Wetangula made the announcement, much to the surprise of the entire nation.

Duale, on his part, was swift to thank the President for giving him a new role saying he is ready to combat climate change and promote reforestation.

“I am grateful to President @WilliamsRuto for reassigning me from the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.

“I look forward to serving in my new portfolio and ensuring focus is on sustainable environmental management, combating climate change, and promoting reforestation and conservation efforts. Indeed, 'And it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows, but you do not know.' - Quran 2:216 #Leadership #NewBeginnings" he wrote.

Earlier this month, Duale heaped praise on Ruto saying he was the right person to steer the country forward despite calls for him to step aside.

Speaking on Citizen TV, Duale said Ruto is a sober man who consults far and wide before making decisions and does not bulldoze his way.

“Ruto works from 6am to midnight, he doesn’t drink. Drinking is bad for leaders, if you overdrink you cannot run the affairs of the state.

“The ones who are saying #RutoMustGo are the same people who were saying before the elections Ruto will not become the President and they have not recovered from that Ruto is now the President and Ruto is changing the country,” he said.

Duale said despite the numerous complaints by Kenyans, Ruto has delivered and the price of food and fuel has gone down.

“The people who are saying Zakayo ashuke, ashuke kutoka wapiAmepanda wapi? Zakayo has delivered, he has brought down food and fuel prices, inflation is at 1%, farmers are happy. On the Finance Bill, the President consulted far and wide,” he said.

Asked whether he would step aside if he is listed among non-performing CSs, Duale said he was ready to do so for the greater good of the nation.
